What should you do when you run into a coyote???

To reduce the chance of injury to yourself or a pet during a coyote encounter, do any of the following:

  • Stand your ground, present a bold front (don't act scared) and DO NOT RUN.

  • Make loud noises, shout, clap your hands

  • Blow a whistle

  • Bang 2 pots together

  • Wave your arms and yell loudly

  • Carry a walking stick

  • Spray it with the garden hose

Dr. Mitchell adds: Scoop small pets up into your arms and keep ALL pets on a short tight leash if you see a coyote. NEVER allow a pet to lunge at a coyote or provoke it.
