Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture extended Tyson's life and gave his loving family more time with him.

I want to say thank you to Knollwood for all of the wonderful times.  Tyson was always welcome and was shown great care, too.   Tyson and I had so much fun doing pet therapy, and the best reward was the smiles that we put on the faces of the residents.  He touched so many lives.

For the last year, Tyson had been fighting pancreatic cancer and that's why we retired from dog shows.  I was not sure how much time we had.  At times, he was not invited to the dog shows, but Tyson came with me as a "guest"  no matter what, and boy did he have fun.  The spotlight was on him, and he loved it.  We took four weeks off just to do the shows with the girls.  He had fun and everyone was wondering if he was a show dog.  Sure, why not?

Tyson gave me the best times.  He gave me one more Christmas and one more New Year's.  I could not ask any more of him.  What a dog.  He was one of a kind and we will truly miss him.  He gave a good fight, but time caught up to him.

Thank you all for your help.  He will live in our hearts forever.

Thank you,
Josh

"There are angels on this earth,
masquerading as people..."

After reading the September 2009 newsletter from Dr. Mitchell, I could not help but think how rare it is these days to find such compassion and commitment to service. I am sure it does not make her life easy.  I know I speak for many clients when I say how much I appreciate her hard work and dedication as well as the level of care and skill of  the entire staff of Knollwood.

About six years ago our female cat Max died of cancer. We were shocked and devastated. Shortly after that, our male cat Zeke started having hip and back issues and was having a tough time getting around.  We really started looking into alternative medicines. The vet practice that we had been going to did not have a solution for his problems nor did they seem to believe in “wellness” or “preventative medicine”. They were certainly nice enough, but basically told us that "no one makes steroids for cats". One vet at the clinic did mention that she had heard acupuncture was helping animals with arthritic conditions. Shortly thereafter, we were fortunate enough to find Dr. Mitchell and the rest of the kind folks at Knollwood. Today, Zeke is living a quality life at 20 years old with the help of acupuncture and the many other services that the hospital provides. Our younger cat Kai is a playful, hearty ball of fur.

“Thank you” just seems so inadequate, but it is heartfelt.

Sincerely,
Beth Schell

Roary, a senior Cairn Terrier, benefits from Veterinary Chiropractic

Dear Dr. Mitchell,

I just don't know what to say to you.  I'm still dumbfounded.  Thank you just doesn't seem good enough.

After his adjustment yesterday, I figured he would be sore, but he was acting like a pup.  Normally when it's time to go upstairs to bed, he will go up to the first landing and stop, go to the second landing and stop and then finally make it to the top of the steps.  Well, last night he didn't even hesitate at the bottom and ran up all the steps without stopping.  He did the same thing this morning going down, and usually I have to keep talking him down.  He just seems so much happier right now.  Lately he has spent most of his time either in his crate (the door is always open), or in the basement with Dan.  Tonight, he stayed out of his crate and laid on the floor in front of the television.  I will never be able to thank you enough for giving him so much relief.

Dan thinks we should bring him back every few months for you to "tune him up."  I would really like to do that.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.  It means so very much to me to see our boy feeling better.

Nancy

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) gives Payton a new lease on life

Payton was diagnosed with a mouth tumor in March of 2008.  His kind of tumor, a fibrosarcoma, was impossible to operate due to its location: behind his upper canine tooth and inside his nose.  Payton’s family wanted him to have a normal life for as long as possible, so they asked their veterinarian for a referral to Knollwood.

Dr. Mitchell developed a traditional Chinese herbal therapy protocol to slow Payton's tumor growth and to stop nosebleeds.  Five months into therapy, Dr. Mitchell called on our surgeon and dental veterinarian, Dr. Mary Papacek, for help.  Dr. Papacek performed a dental surgery to prevent Payton's mouth tumor growing over surrounding teeth.  Dr. Mitchell was then able to resume herbal therapy successfully.  We were able to give Payton over a year and a half of quality extra time with his family.

Payton's family shared his story and the above picture, on the occasion of his tenth birthday:

"On February 10th, 2009, Payton celebrated his 10th birthday. We had a wonderful celebration and are still celebrating all of the wonderful extra days we've had with Payton thanks to Dr. Mitchell and everyone else at Knollwood Hospital for Pets. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Beamish earns Rally Champion Extraordinaire title and APDT Top Twenty status - with the help of Veterinary Chiropractic!

The first Bernese Mountain Dog ever to earn APDT's highest title - Rally Champion Extraordinaire - is Beamish Sanders, who accomplished the feat on March 15.

Beamish was also named to APDT's Top Twenty Overall for 2008. This is a national all-breed ranking of points earned during the calendar year for scores of 191 or better. Beamish is the first Bernese with this recognition as well.

I know he would never have done so much without Dr. Mitchell's chiropractic special touch.

Thanks!

Brenda Sanders - Rockton Illinois and "Beamish"
