Dentistry
Healthy teeth and gums are key to your pet's good health. We offer FREE in-hospital dental consultations with our trained Veterinary Nurses. They'll work with you to develop a comprehensive plan to improve your pet's health, starting with good dental hygiene. Regular professional care of your pet's teeth and gums is necessary for most pets, just as it is for you. The old, tired adage that eating a dry pet food maintains healthy teeth just isn't true, any more than eating only dry, hard food would maintain your teeth without help from a dentist. Supervised by our Doctors and Nurses Nikki and Jill our Veterinary Dental Team works hard to keep your pet's teeth, gums, and entire mouth in tip-top shape!
General Surgery
All of our Doctors are excellent soft tissue surgeons and are very skilled in performing any surgery your pet may need, from routine surgeries such as ovariohysterectomies (spays) and neutering, to removal of lumps and bumps, to even emergency abdominal surgery and biopsies. But that's only the start. We offer the latest in anesthetic and monitoring techniques to make surgery as safe as possible for your pet, from start to finish. The anesthesia is carefully calculated, and based on the patient's weight, body type, and breed. Each surgery patient is under constant supervision by a highly trained Nurse. Surgical monitoring includes, but is certainly not limited to, steady monitoring and record-keeping of the patient's heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, pulse oximetry, EKG, and fluid needs. We can even monitor your pet's blood pressure! Our Surgery team Nurses are supervised by Nurses Nikki. and Jill.
Specialty Surgery
Some surgical procedures are best left to veterinarians who have received specialty training in them. You would never want your family physician to perform heart, brain, bone, or eye surgery on you or a family member. You'd prefer to have someone with advanced training in those areas - someone who does those complicated surgeries every day. At Knollwood, we believe that your pet deserves the same level of care. So, just as other area veterinarians refer to us for help with complicated medical cases that require complementary and alternative care (Dr. Mitchell's greatest area of expertise), we refer to area cardiologists for heart surgery, to neurologists for brain and spinal cord surgery, to orthopedic surgeons for bone and joint surgery, and to ophthalmologists for complicated eye surgeries. If you have a questions about whether your pet should be referred and who we would refer to, just ask! We'll be glad to refer you to a qualified specialty surgeon.
Upsurpassed Pain Management
We offer a cutting-edge approach to pain management, to make absolutely sure that your pet remains comfortable during, and after, surgery and dental procedures. We incorporate traditional medications, homeopathics, herbal medication, and acupuncture as needed, both in-hospital and when your pet goes home. By treating our patients as the individuals they are, and by paying close attention to their individual pain management needs, we are able to keep your pet stress-free, pain-free, and happy!
