Deborah Mitchell, D.V.M., M.S.

Our Medical Director

Dr. Deborah Mitchell earned her degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.  She also holds joint Bachelors degrees in biological sciences and in veterinary medicine, as well as a Masters degree in field biology.  In addition to being extremely skilled in small animal medicine and surgery, Dr. Mitchell is certified in veterinary acupuncture, veterinary chiropractic, and Usui Reiki.  She is trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), TCM herbology, and Applied Kinesiology.  She is a recognized expert in veterinary acupuncture, veterinary chiropractic, and veterinary Reiki who lectures nationwide to veterinary groups on topics related to integrative and alternative medicine.

Dr. Mitchell's overall medical focus is integrative medicine - not holistic medicine.  This means that she combines the best of the alternative therapies in which she is trained with the best that her traditional Western medical training has to offer, giving your pet more tools for healing - and for wellness maintenance.  For referral patients, the alternative therapies she offers can greatly enhance the work that your primary care (regular) veterinarian is doing.  For more information on the differences between integrative medicine and holistic medicine, click here.

Dr. Mitchell shares her home with her Bullmastiff Canuke, her cat Emmett, and her two Cairn Terriers, Lizzie and Hebert.  Canuke was recently adopted as a mature adult; Emmett is a rescued 9 year old Persian who was seized, along with dozens of other cats, as part of an area cruelty investigation in 2005.  Hebert is a 3 year old Cairn that was rescued from a puppy mill in Wisconsin.  Of course, Lizzie, 11 years old, rules the roost - she has her own column, "Lizzie Says", on our website - check out her monthly words of wisdom for her fellow pets, or ask her a question!

In addition to serving as our hospital's Medical Director, Dr. Mitchell sees patients at our hospital on these days and hours: Mondays from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm; Tuesdays from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm; Thursdays, from noon until 7:00 pm; and Fridays from 11:00 am till 7:00 pm with Saturday off, OR Friday from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am-2:00 pm.
